You know that moment when you’re so wrapped up in something that you lose track of time? You may do a double take when the clock tells you it’s been 2 or 3 hours…
You might be writing a new song or practicing a new skill – whatever it is – time stops mattering. And as you pour into that something, you may find a sense of meaning. I’ve found moments like that to be some of the most fulfilling ones.
As I’ve been reflecting on the 9-5 lifestyle and allowing time for my passions, I’ve realized how vital both can be; I’ve also realized they each have a time & a place.
There’s a line between just making a living and doing what makes us come alive.
If you’ve found a way to monetize your passion, then your living just might be what brings your soul to life. Far too often, though, it may seem easier for us to trade in our passions for our profession, only to lose sight of what we truly love to do.
Whether you’ve spent years dreaming about being a musician, dairy farmer or even an astronaut, I hope you’ll keep both yourself and that dream of yours alive.
Here are some of my favorite quotes, to serve as an encouragement:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” –Colossians 3:23
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” -Proverbs 16:3
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive. The world needs more people who have come alive.” –Howard Thurman
